GPS position attracts thieves

By Lia Bichel
In the last financial year, 159 GPS units were reported stolen from Greater Dandenong.
Detective Senior Sergeant Terry Kane said people needed to be mindful of their personal belongings.
“People need to understand that a lot of thieves are opportunists,” he said.
“If they can see something inside the car that they want, they will break in. So people should tuck their GPSes away and keep them hidden. Any sort of security they can have on their car will also help prevent theft, but won’t be a 100 per cent guarantee.”
