SEVEN local organisations will receive a combined $25,000 in funding as part of the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants program.
Federal member for Isaacs Mark Dreyfus announced that the organisations, based in Greater Dandenong, would receive grants of between $1000 and $5000. He said the funding would assist community organisations and their volunteers, with grants to buy equipment and give volunteers much-needed help with fuel costs.
Local bodies that will receive funding include Sloven Association Planica Springvale ($5000), Chinese Xinjiang Senior Citizen Association ($5000), Xinjiang Chinese Association of Australia ($4500), Springvale Lions Baseball Club ($4500), Keysborough and District Senior Citizens Club ($3099,) Moodemere Scout Group ($1700) and Springvale South Tennis Club ($1615).
“These grants are going to allow the Springvale South Tennis Club to purchase a line marker and a surface roller and the Moodemere Scout Group to get new hike packs,” he said.
Mr Dreyfus welcomed the funding, which he said would help deserving volunteer organisations that are the backbone of the community.
