Winners, in any old language

By Melissa Meehan
MULTICULTURALISM is a word synonymous with Noble Park Primary School.
This was proven when the school received its Victorian Multicultural Education Award late last year.
Principal David Rothstadt said it was fitting that the school received the award highlighting that about 80 per cent of the students at the school come from a background with a language other than English.
He said a raft of programs, including strong English as a Second Language support, multicultural education aides in five languages (Khmer, Vietnamese, Sudanese languages, Afghan and Bosnian), a transition program with the Noble Park English Language School, homework club, breakfast club, women’s group and playgroup all helped the school receive the award.
“These programs are supported by all staff, with our school wellbeing officer being the driving force behind many of the community-based programs,” Mr Rothstadt said.
“The school has also been working very hard to build strong relationships with the entire school community and has worked with an internationally renowned expert in this field.”
The award was presented at a reception at Government House late last year, a proud achievement for all associated with the school.
