Riding high at bike’s return

A FAMILY is celebrating the safe return of their brand-new lime green Mongoose bicycle, stolen two weeks ago.
Edward Kelly from Dandenong North purchased the $440 bicycle for his 15-year-old son Leigh so he could ride to work, only to have it stolen three days later.
Rick from Keysborough contacted Windermere Child and Family Services in Narre Warren after seeing the article in the Star on 15 January.
According to Terry Thomas, Windermere Child and Family Services community engagement and fund-raising manager, Rick purchased the bicycle from a man for $100.
“After reading the story in the paper he called Windermere immediately, saying he wanted the boy to have his bike back,” Ms Thomas said.
Rick was reimbursed with the $100, and has also gained a replacement bicycle from Doveton residents Richard and Jean.
The couple were happy to donate the bicycle to Rick after he came forward with Leigh’s stolen bicycle.
Mr Kelly said his son was rapt that he got his bicycle back. “It’s a great start to the New Year,” he said.
Ms Thomas said she was thrilled that the centre rec-eived two other bicycle don-ations. “Our thanks go out to everyone for their concerns.”
