GREATER Dandenong residents will soon notice a large water tanker around town.
The council and South East Water have teamed up to provide the community with Class A recycled water with a dedicated City of Greater Dandenong water tanker.
South East Water managing director Shaun Cox said South East Water was keen to work with the City of Greater Dandenong to achieve strong water savings and to educate the community on all levels of water conservation and sustainability.
The water tanker will be used to provide water for Dandenong’s community parks and gardens as well as some sports fields.
“South East Water is trying to protect Melbourne’s drinking water supplies by managing an alternative water service that provides Class A recycled water by tankers to construction projects, parks and gardens, sporting facilities and industry,” Mr Cox said.
“The City of Greater Dandenong recycled-water tanker allows the community to see how important it is for us to find alternative water supplies for non drinking water use and save our precious drinking water.”
Mr Cox said the tanker would also develop an expanded recognition around Melbourne of the use of recycled water and its availability.
Council chief executive John Bennie said that the tanker would allow the City of Greater Dandenong to water its sports ovals, garden beds and trees.
“Greater Dandenong has adopted a number of water-saving measures in a bid to save potable water in the city,” he said.
