DANDENONG Hospital patients will benefit from the additional staff who began late last month.
Jessica Adams joined 66 new doctors who began as interns at Southern Health and a total of 508 new doctors who have begun work as interns across the state.
Southern Health Director of Medical Services Dr Cate Kelly said the interns rotated to different sites every 10 to11 weeks and at any one time approximately nine were at Dandenong Hospital.
Ms Adams said she was excited to work at Dandenong Hospital during her first year out of university.
“I was able to do a lot of my training at Dandenong,” Ms Adams said.
“So it is exciting to be able to come back to a place I know.”
Originally from Queensland, Ms Adams moved to Melbourne to study medicine at Monash University.
“At the moment I’m doing a rotation in general medicine, which I am really enjoying,” she said.
“It’s something I want to focus on, instead of knowing a lot about one area of medicine I want to know a bit about everything.”
Ms Adams will complete six more weeks at Dandenong before moving on to Monash Medical Centre and then back to Dandenong Hospital to complete her rounds.
