Flying visit for Cilmi

LOCAL girl Gabriella Cilmi wowed an audience of 80,000 at Sound Relief on Saturday.
In spite of the pouring rain and cold conditions thousands made the journey to the MCG to support victims of the bushfires that ravaged Victoria.
Cilmi, who flew in from London, followed opening act Jet, and then boarded a flight to the United States for tour commitments.
“I came to Melbourne for Sound Relief because I wanted to do my bit for the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal,” Cilmi said.
“I was watching the TV footage from London; people have lost friends and family, houses and jobs. I also knew people who had to evacuate. I was asked to perform but I would have volunteered to put in my time anyway.”
She described the concert as amazing.
“I used to watch Richmond footy matches there,” she said. “It was nice to be there without a pie in my hand.
“Seeing the stadium filled up with people from the stage was amazing.”
A big fan of Kings of Leon, Cilmi professed her love to the band but said she was disappointed to miss Jack Johnson – flying out during his performance.
She was home for only 12 hours.
