Art captures sea change

WALKER Street Gallery Dandenong will showcase the artwork of Stephan May in his upcoming exhibition The Seas Of Western Port.
Mr May moved to French Island in 1992 and since then has drawn constant inspiration from the ever-changing environment around him.
Through colour and evocative tones, Mr May’s exhibition reflects the many moods of his French Island surroundings.
The seas of Western Port Bay, which divide French Island from the mainland, reflect all of nature’s moods, wild, serene and at times both.
Mr May said his work is emotive but not sentimental.
“The clouds, the shadows, and the lurking menace of Western Port Bay are my muse,” he said.
“Years of farming and broken dreams have never tamed this enigmatic and still remote island.”
The official opening of the exhibition will be on 2 April with a French Island theme, featuring singer Majella as well as island wines and food.
The exhibition will run from 1 to 27 April.
