A DANDENONG man suffered serious leg injuries in an industrial accident at Dandenong South on Saturday morning.
Intensive care paramedics and advanced life support paramedics from Dandenong were called to a factory just after 11am.
Intensive care paramedic Mark Wallace said they arrived within nine minutes to find a 29 year-old man trapped in machinery.
“The man was trapped up to his knee, and suffered extensive injuries to both legs,” he said. “He was in severe pain so a drip was put in his arm and he was given some pain relief, while rescue crews began dismantling the machine in an hour-long operation”
Mr Wallace said the man’s injuries led to a dangerously low blood pressure, so he was given more than three litres of fluid through a drip, to help stabilise his condition. “We didn’t know how long the rescue operation would take, so blood supplies, and a trauma doctor from The Alfred hospital were flown to the scene by ambulance helicopter,” he said. The man was taken to The Alfred in a serious condition.
