Baseball bat assault

By Melissa Meehan
A MAN is recovering in hospital with severe head injuries after being hit with a baseball bat in a bungled robbery in a Noble Park street.
Detective Senior Constable Dean Hedge said the man, who is in his 20s, was walking his dog at about 8.40pm on Wednesday night when he was approached by four males.
“Two of the men got out of the car they were travelling in and demanded his money,” he said.
“He told them he didn’t have any money on him and produced his wallet to prove it, but as he did this one of the men punched him in the face.
“Another then hit him with a baseball bat.”
He said that the man was taken to Dandenong Hospital with serious head injuries and couldn’t help police with their inquiries until the day after the assault due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Det Sen Const Hedge said that the men were Caucasian and travelling in a four door sedan dated to the mid 1990s which was either brown or dark red.
“The main male offender was described as over 185cm tall, with a big build and a red baseball cap,” Det Sen Const Hedge said.
“For them to assault this guy when he had no money on him shows how cowardly and brutal the assault really was.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dandenong CIU on 9767 7487 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
