Graduates learn skills for life

By Melissa Meehan
TWELVE students celebrated graduating from a Life Skills Course held by ERMHA’s Mad Cap Venture.
The course, held over 20 weeks in two separate 10-week blocks, was held at Chisholm TAFE.
Participants from this course may become eligible to work at the MadCap Café as part of their preparation or move on to further study or employment.
ERMHA MadCap Ventures project manager Anthony Cheeseman said the outcomes had been nothing short of outstanding.
“So far six students have worked at MadCap Café and four will start over the coming three weeks,” he said.
“This course is an important step for our clients in their transition through to open employment.”
He said the course helped to change their lives outside work hours.
“When they are employed they can handle the day to day goings on in the workplace,” Mr Cheeseman said.
“This project not only complements ERMHAs MadCap Café but provides an opportunity for those people who are our community’s most disadvantaged to engage in a project that will give them the skills and confidence to either lead to further education or into open employment.”
It is anticipated that more than 200 people will participate in the courses over the next 12 months.
Mr Cheeseman said the course relied on corporate sponsors to fund the equipment needed to run the courses.
