First win after coach dumped

By Stuart Teather
IT HAS been a busy week down at White Eagles Stadium.
The State League One club, winless after six games, dumped coach Stan Webster and replaced him with Dusan Kalezic last Monday.
Then, on Saturday, the White Eagles came out and belted Frankston 3-0 to record their first win of the season.
Three first half goals to Gordan Mrzic, Nenad Pavasovic and Kruno Stanisic did the job for the White Eagles, boosting the side to 10th on the ladder, two places clear of Frankston on the bottom.
Webster did not want to comment when contacted by Star, but White Eagles president Bob Stojanac said the decision was purely performance based.
“We played six games, collected two points, and that’s why,” he said.
“(Webster is) still, I think, one of the best coaches in Victoria. But we had no success. The committee asked for changes and we did that last Monday.”
Stojanac said the win in Kalezic’s first game as coach was justification for the move, “at the moment”.
In other results, Southern Stars had a tough day out in State League One, going down 3-1 to Langwarrin.
Rasim Sezgi converted in the first half for the Stars and the scores were locked 1-1 at the break, but Langwarrin found the net twice in the second half to secure the points.
In State League Two South East action, Heatherton United came out on top of the local derby with Dandenong City, securing a 3-2 win.
United held a 2-0 lead at half-time and although Zoran Tudor scored twice for City in the second half, his side could not get over the line.
South Springvale had a good result, securing a 1-1 draw with top side Doncaster.
There were mixed fortunes for local teams in State League Three South East, with Springvale City belting Boroondara 4-0 and Noble Park United receiving a 5-1 hiding at the hands of Peninsula. City’s win boosted the side to the top of the ladder with 14 points from seven games, while United languishes in ninth with two wins so far.
