THE founder and director of the Drum Theatre Paul Streekferk was farewelled at a concert on Saturday night.
Australian and international talent graced the stage in what was described as a fitting tribute to the man who brought the arts to Dandenong.
Mr Streefkerk passed away suddenly earlier this year.
His life was celebrated in front of a full house, something that would have pleased him.
Familiar faces including David Hobson, Denise Drysdale, the City of Greater Dandenong Band and many more donated their time to perform at the tribute concert.
Tenor David Hobson noted the profound connection ‘Streef’ had with performing artists.
“He was a great supporter of the arts and was the sort of person who really understood artists,” Mr Hobson said.
City of Greater Dandenong manager of libraries, arts and heritage services Karen Ward-Smith said the night was a huge success.
“It went very well,” Ms Ward-Smith said.
“We were approached by the industry because they wanted to do a performance in memory of Paul.
“It was a fitting tribute.”
