FREEDOM reigns.
The Freedom Day Club celebrated their first anniversary in Springvale last week among friends and family.
Over 80 members attended the celebrations to mark the occasion.
Dandenong RSL treasurer John Filmer who attends the club regularly said it was a wonderful day.
“The Freedom Day Club was the 38th day club set up by Department of Veteran Affairs,” Mr Filmer said.
“But it was the first to be set up for a specific group of people.” The group was set up for South Vietnamese veterans and their families.
“They are a wonderful group of people and this group covers veterans from the south-east of Victoria,” Mr Filmer said.
“We have members from Noble Park, Springvale, Dandenong, Clayton and Hampton Park.” Mr Filmer said the day club allowed veterans to have a social outlet as well as opportunities to be informed about their community and getting older. “It is wonderful that we can celebrate that a year has gone past and look forward to many more,” he said.
