SPRINGVALE Primary School has teamed up with Parkmore Shopping Centre to create a set of mosaics that depict the culture of the centre.
Co-ordinated by Springvale primary art teacher Tina Apostolakis the mosaics were produced by students from Grade 1 to Grade 6, over three school terms in 2008. The mosaics are now a permanent fixture in the shopping centre.
The end result is a collaboration of images inspired by the shopping complex including shoes, fruit and vegetables, pet stores, homewares, toys and stationery.
Ms Apostolakis said this was a fantastic opportunity for students from all year levels to be involved.
“They developed skills and knowledge in mosaics, Lazertran transfer techniques, the purpose of art in our culture and it promoted in our students a sense of achievement and ownership of the project,” she said.
The artworks can be viewed at the shopping centre next to Australia Post.
