THE Springvale fire station is not the first place to come to mind for a car accident, but that’s exactly what happened on Saturday.
After a collision at the intersection opposite the station, one car failed to stop, landing in the front garden bed, wedging itself between the garden and a CFA sign.
CFA volunteer Keith Pakenham said it was not the first time a car had crashed on fire station property.
“I think we attract the accidents,” he said. “Over the past few years we’ve had accidents at the Noble Park and Hallam fire stations.”
Mr Pakenham said volunteers on site were able to block off the road to oncoming traffic by using a pumper truck.
“The Springvale pumper truck was returning from a small fire just before the accident occurred,” he said.
“The officers used the truck to block off one of the road lanes, leaving the other two open for traffic.”
While Mr Pakenham said no one needed urgent medical attention, onsite paramedics were able to check the drivers for injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
