A BOOK donated by the Dandenong RSL to Mt Hira College, Keysborough, last Friday, has piqued the historical interest of many students.
Dandenong RSL major projects officer John Wells and welfare officer John Filmer presented ‘The Turks in Australia, Celebrating 25 Years Down Under’ to school principal Patricia Gay and college captains.
The author of the book was awarded the Anzac House 2010 Peace Award.
Ms Gay said the book had significant meaning to the school with about 60 per cent of the students having a Turkish background.
“We are absolutely delighted that the book was donated,” she said.
Mr Wells said the book contained a lot history, interesting for the students.
“The Turks who came to Australia brought their history with them, and it became part of our history,” he said.
“Gallipoli is a huge link between the two nations.”
