Good word for interpreters

DANDENONG Centrelink recognised the vital role interpreters play in its business this month.
The Dandenong business presented certificates of appreciation on Wednesday 1 December to interpreters who assist people from the Greater Dandenong area everyday.
Centrelink Dandenong Multicultural Service Officer Rick Comfort said about half of the customers living in and around Dandenong came from a diverse culture and linguistic background.
“About one in five customers require the use of an interpreter when dealing with Centrelink,” he said.
“For over 10 years, sessional interpreters, operating from Centrelink Dandenong have continued to provide exceptional support to staff when dealing with customers.
“The team at Dandenong conduct themselves as true professionals and continue to support staff as they work through often difficult cases, interpreting often complex Centrelink issues to newly arrived or longer term non-English speaking residents.”
Mr Comfort said Centrelink was in need of NAATI accredited or experienced interpreters to join its register.
Applicants need to have permanent residency or citizenship in Australia, interpreting experience, demonstrated knowledge of the AUSIT Code of Ethics, good interpersonal skills and cultural awareness and availability to provide services.
