The team has been working hard to secure sponsors to meet the many costs involved in getting to New York and will be holding a fundraising auction dinner in mid-February.
“We are hoping that the local business community will get behind us and donate goods, vouchers or services that we can use as prizes on the night,” Leading Senior Constable Barry Randall said.
The donations will not only allow the team to get back to New York and compete but a portion of money raised at the event will be donated to the Queensland flood relief as the club’s way of supporting those affected by recent floods.
Three members from Dandenong Police Station will play in the rugby seven’s event at the games.
Local members going to the USA are Senior Constable Eddy MacDonald, Constable Darren Foster and Leading Senior Constable Barry Randall.
“I assist with rugby league training and deliver talks to young players on issues such as respect for women, domestic violence, assaults, drugs and alcohol all with the underlying theme of making good boys into great men,” Leading Sen Const Randall said.
The team would like to encourage the local community to get behind them to assist with fund-raising for the world games and the Queensland flood relief.
Any potential sponsors can contact Leading Sen Const Randall on 9767 7469.
