Gift’s back at Park

By Bridget Cook
This year organisers are seeking more juniors to take part in the foot running events, with the view to establishling a strong junior competition.
The event, which started early this decade, includes a number of events for adults with $8360 in prizemoney up for grabs.
Races include a 70 metre open, 100 metre novice, 120 metre Noble Park Gift, the 400 metre Sportzbiz novice series and some longer distance races.
If the events generate enough interest in junior categories, a 70 metre, 120 metre and 800 metre race, will be held for different age groups.
Glenda Ross, the secretary of the Noble Park Football Club which organises the event, has sent out a call for juniors to get involved.
“Girls and boys will race separately and it will be handicapped, so it’s not just for the elite,” she said.
“Trophies and sashes will be awarded to the winners. We want the junior events to grow like the adult events have.”
There will be a canteen, alcohol stall and barbecue facilities operating.
The Noble Park Gift will be held at the Noble Park Reserve in Moodemere Street.
Junior events start at 10am with adult events starting at noon.
Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for concession and children under 16 are free.
For more information call Ms Ross on 0402 083 699.
