Police hit out at

By Lia Bichel
POLICE are urging Casey and Greater Dandenong residents with information about a “cowardly” and “disgusting” assault in Berwick to come forward.
At 3.45am on 6 February, three men and a woman, all aged 18, were walking to a car in a Berwick Hotel car park when they were approached by a group of seven men in a silver Mitsubishi Pajero.
Police said two of the men got out of the car and asked the group for a cigarette. One gave them a cigarette, the two thanked him and they shook hands.
When they turned to walk away two of the teenagers were assaulted, one with a bottle to the back of the head. One was taken to Dandenong Hospital with serious facial injuries, the other suffered minor injuries.
Detective Senior Constable Guy Matheson from the Narre Warren Crime Investigation Unit said it was a random attack.
“It was an unprovoked and cowardly attack on four unsuspecting, good-mannered people,” Det Sen Const Matheson said.
“It was absolutely a random attack. It’s disgusting.”
Mr Matheson said while random attacks in Casey were not common they did occur occasionally.
He said there were no witnesses to this attack but urged anyone with information to contact the police.
The seven men in the Mitsubishi Pajero were described as aged 18 to 21 and of Maori appearance.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Det Sen Const Matheson on 9705 3115.
