Coming to a street near you… Bollards

.
HERBERT Street in Dandenong will be closed for four weeks from 15 November.
City of Greater Dandenong will install retractable bollards near the Ann Street intersection following consultation with the local and Dandenong High School communities.
The bollards will operate on school days between 8.00am and 4.00pm, closing Herbert Street to make crossing the road safer for students accessing different school campus areas.
The council’s engineering services director Bruce Rendall said it had extensively explored alternative treatments, including a trial road closure in 2010, along with consideration of public submissions in May and June this year.
“The retractable bollard solution was chosen as it addressed both student safety concerns and allowed an important travel route to remain an option for local residents outside school times,” he said.
“The council is aware that the temporary road closure will cause some inconvenience for regular Herbert Street users, but once complete most road users should be able to resume their normal travel patterns outside school times.”
