MORE than 80 amateur golfers took a swing for education on Monday in 36 degree heat and raised $40,000.
The Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation held its annual Charity Golf Day at Southern Golf Club in Keysborough on 18 February.
The day raised money for scholarships to help students in hardship achieve their vocational education dreams.
Scholarship money helps to cover tuition fees, books, travel and equipment for those who can’t access or remain at Chisholm without support.
In 2012 the foundation provided 168 scholarships.
Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation executive officer Kate Hulusi said the scholarship students were so grateful to get into education that they often excelled and even took out awards and prizes in their fields.
She said players braved the heat and “really enjoyed” the event.
One of Australia’s most successful and popular professional golfers Bob Shearer and Australian ladies professional golfer Kate Little helped and challenged players throughout the day.
