Cops on hunt for firebugs

GREATER Dandenong CIU detectives are appealing for witnesses to two deliberately lit fires and have charged a man over a third.
CFA crews extinguished a blaze that gutted a Holden Commodore sedan in Taylors Road, Dandenong South, about 11.30pm on 17 March.
The CFA was unable to determine a point of origin or ignition source.
Detective Senior Constable Bret Lavars said the car had no doors, engine or tyres and all identifying features had been removed.
“It’s been towed and dumped there,” he said.
One witness reported seeing a trailer in the area – near Glasscocks Road – but police are appealing for more information.
In a separate incident, a plastic tub filled with spray cans, pocket knives, clothing, screw drivers and more was set alight outside the Parkmore Football Club rooms at Wachter Reserve, near Wahroonga Avenue and Bloomfield Road, about 11.30pm on 21 March.
There were reports of a loud bang from an aerosol can exploding, but Det Sen Const Lavars said there was no bomb and no damage to the rooms.
A man was seen in the area of the tub, but police are appealing for more information.
Officers charged a 27-year-old Dandenong man over a third blaze, started from clothing in Patchell Lane, Dandenong, about 10.40pm on 18 March.
Det Sen Const Lavars said the fire caused damage to bricks of an adjoining building and the man was yet to face court.
Anyone with information on the fires should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
