Where do you find the local sports results, what your council is doing, the emergency plumber and what’s on this week?
Where do you see the local identities, important events?Where do you find out what is happening and what happened to your community, your neighbourhood? Where do you find a record of the flood or fire which is affecting or has affected your town?
Where do you find the street you lived in, school you went to and the shops you remember from your childhood?
Where do you find that girl who you knew at school and who got married in 1963 but cannot recall her name?
Where do you find the price of petrol, houses, and cars in 1901?
Where do you find the impact of wars and the economy on your town?
You find it in the local paper. Dandenong is no exception to this rule. Copies of the Dandenong Journal have been kept at the Dandenong and District Historical Society since 1887. Every week, we have requests for events that have been recorded in the local paper. People come from far and wide to research their past and find that photo of their dad who was presented with a certificate of merit at school.
We find the local paper one of our best resources and are delighted that The Journal has returned to a family owned company who appreicate history as much we do.
