WHAT the Journal means to me and M+K?
The short answer is a lot. It was the predecessor to the Dandenong Journal, known as the South Bourke and Mornington Journal, that in 1905 marked the birth of our firm.
On 4 October 1905, there was an advertisement on the front page that signalled Mr MacPherson starting business in Dandenong. We have recently just made the advertisement into a coaster to commemorate that advertisement.
The Journal has been part of Dandenong and its very fabric since that time.
I can remember very early on in my time in Dandenong, John Woods running around with camera and notepad at every event that was on, much like reporter Casey Neill these days.
John was a truly great man. One of his many legacies is the Premier Regional Business Awards as he was one of the key founders of the awards with four others.
His support for the awards in the early days really set them up into something that has now been running for 23 years.
The Star News Group is, of course, now a sponsor of the awards so that is really a full circle.
