NOBLE Park community worker Nina Springle is promising to give the region a voice.
The Greens candidate is running for a South Eastern Metropolitan Region seat, in the legislative council, in the November State Election.
Ms Springle launched her campaign at Bombardier in Dandenong last week, with a transport policy announcement.
“We will be calling for another 50 trams to be manufactured at that factory on top of the 50 they already have on order,” she said.
“That would increase jobs by about 500 in the region.”
She said the Greens had also proposed a number of extensions to existing tram routes to ease overcrowding, which would have a flow-on effect to the south east.
“All of the other times that I’ve run – this is my fourth campaign in the region – the feedback I keep getting from people is that they’re tired of being ignored,” she said.
“A lot of seats in our region are considered to be safe Labor or Liberal.
“It does seem to be that the politicians don’t give you as much attention as they would if it was a marginal seat.
“I think people are really tired of it.”
Ms Springle said the Greens’ vote increased by more than 600 votes in last year’s Lyndhurst by-election, and Labor’s dropped 5000.
“That’s a lot of people who would ordinary vote Labor because they’re rusted on but are so tired that they didn’t,” she said.
“I think it’s really time that people got some proper representation.”
