Roof siege man charged

By CASEY NEILL

A NOBLE Park man has today (Tuesday) been charged over a 30-hour siege in Moodemere Street over the weekend.
He’ll face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 21 April to answer charges of arson, criminal damage and assaulting police.
The 46-year-old has been remanded in Dandenong Hospital, following a psychiatric assessment.
A family member called police on Friday morning and they arrived about midnight as his behaviour became more erratic.
He allegedly threw tiles and flaming socks at police from his roof and brandished a large knife.
Officers negotiated with him until he allegedly tried to escape via neighbouring roofs about 4.10pm on Saturday. They fired non-lethal beanbag rounds to subdue and arrest him.
