Ratepayers have a say on what to pay

GREATER Dandenong ratepayers can have their say on their council’s next budget.
An online forum will take ideas and foster discussion on what the community values most until the end of March.
The people with the five ideas that receive the most votes will be invited to present at a special budget session on Wednesday 6 April where the council will discuss the benefits and challenges of each idea.
The council will review all ideas during the 2016-17 Budget process.
Mayor Heang Tak said the introduction of rate capping meant tightening the council purse strings.
“Rate capping will affect the way we provide services, but we genuinely want to hear from our community about the services and infrastructure they can’t live without,” he said.
“Budgeting to run this city is a huge task, but we want to involve the community in the decision-making process.“
