A reformed gang thug and drug dealer will share his story in Dandenong South to steer others away from that type of destructive lifestyle.
Tony Hoang’s parents were Vietnamese refugees and he grew up in poverty in Cabramatta, New South Wales, in the 1990s.
At age 13 he escaped loneliness and violence through a notorious crime gang and landed in jail a year later.
Tony continued to deal drugs when he was released, finding belonging and self-importance through gang life.
At age 16 he lost a close friend to a drug overdose and other friends went to jail.
In 2004 Tony left that life behind and is now a father to six children – two adopted – and shares his story across Australia.
Potters House Church, 238 South Gippsland Highway, Dandenong South, will host him at 7.30pm on Thursday 9, Friday 10 and Saturday 11 November.
In July, the church presented former bikies at a free anti-drugs, anti-violence youth and family event.
Pastor Dan Villani said he wanted to help with the rising problem of drugs and violence in the community.
