Grants connect youth and community

Dandenong youth services will receive a $945,000 boost.
The cash will come from the State Government’s Engage! 2018-20 grants program to support young people aged between 12 and 25.
The Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) received $100,000 for its new Youth Participation, Opportunities and Development (POD) Project.
It’s designed to build skills, knowledge and connectedness for young people to their communities and will work particularly with those who are newly arrived in Australia.
The project will involve educating young people in school through interactive workshops and mentoring.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said the Engage! program helped young people strengthen their education, training and employment pathways, and improve their health and wellbeing.
“These projects gives them the hands-on experiences they need to achieve their personal and professional goals and I encourage more young people to get involved,” she said.
Young people are a key part of developing and delivering Engage! projects.
