Kicking off women’s soccer

Dandenong’s White Star Soccer Club want more women to get a kick out of playing soccer, having recently started their very first open women’s team.

The club prides itself on its ability to bring together the diverse cultures that make up the Dandenong area and encourages harmony and unity through participation in sport.

The team have received expressions of interest from six players for the 2020 season, but require an additional 10 players in order to form a competitive team to play under the Football Federation of Victoria’s competition.

The club is encouraging women and girls of all ages to consider participating in the 2020 season, believing it is a great way to promote fitness, skill and technique in a non-aggressive team environment.

“The team is an open women’s team so it doesn’t matter if you are 15 years of age or 35 years of age. Everyone is welcome,” said team coach Jose Linares.

He iis enthusiastic about the season ahead and enjoys teaching players the skills and techniques of the game.

“Seeing players progress during the year and improve is the reward I receive for coaching,” he said.

The team will commence pre-season training soon and is based at the Alan Carter Pavilion, Greaves Reserve, Bennet Street Dandenong. Women interested in joining are encouraged to contact the club via their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WhiteStarDandenongFC/ or ring team manager Tony on 0417 304 467.
