ANZ teller foils Springvale robbery attempt

Failed robbery: a police image of a woman they wish to speak to about the attempted robbery.

A BANK teller has stared down a would-be robber who threatened to shoot everyone in a Springvale bank.

Police say that the female offender entered the ANZ bank at 286 Springvale Road about 12.15am on last Thursday.

She waited in line with about 20 customers then handed a note to the female teller.

The note stated: ‘‘give me $50,000 or ill [sic] shoot everyone in the bank’’.

Police say the teller refused the demand, and refused again when the woman said ‘‘Please, they have my kids.’’

As a final ploy, the woman reached into her bag and indicated she had a gun. Again the teller refused to give her the money.

The woman then grabbed the note from the counter and fled without the requested cash.

She is described as in her 30s, of Middle Eastern appearance, 165 centimetres and with brown eyes.

She was wearing a white headscarf, a black long-sleeved jacket, black pants, slip-on black shoes and carried a black leather double-strap handbag.
