Premier Cricket with a Twenty20 stiff upper lip

By ROY WARD

THE students will became the teachers, sort of, when Eildon Park plays Premier Cricket club Prahran in a charity Twenty20 match next month.

Prahran stars Bryce McGain, captain Sam Coates and fast bowler Rhys Adams have been installed in guest coaching roles with the Panthers this season as the club looks to develop its own players.

So to celebrate the connections between the two clubs they decided to arrange a special match to be played at Eildon Park on November 20 at 5.30pm. Both sides will be playing to raise money for the Movember campaign.

Panthers captain Cam Cosstick said his players were keen to test themselves against the True Blues, who won the Premier Cricket Twenty20 premiership last season.

The True Blues also feature international level players David Hussey and Chris Rogers with both a chance to play in the match.

He also expected one or two of the Panthers could be fielding rather dubious moustaches by game day.

“We said to Prahran ‘why not have game?’ he said. “They were all for it. They will field as good a team as they can, and while there are no guarantees guys like Hussey or Rogers will play, I’m pretty confident McGain will play.”

Cosstick said the club hoped to have some fun and games for any children who come to the match and a special Movember trophy would be given to the winning side.

While this match will be the first time the two sides play, Cosstick said he wouldn’t rule out making the event a regular one for the Panthers.

Eildon Park will play Prahran in a Twenty20 match at Eildon Park cricket ground, Eildon Parade on November 20 at 5.30pm.
