WNBL: Rangers out for revenge

By ROY WARD

DANDENONG Rangers will get the chance to square their personal account with Adelaide Lightning in the final week of the WNBL season this Saturday night.

The Rangers, who expect to finish in second spot, face the third-placed Lightning, who beat the Rangers in Dandenong earlier in the new year in a physical match which left Rangers coach Mark Wright questioning how much contact the referees allowed to go on.

With the WNBL play-offs to begin the following week, the Rangers will be keen to test their readiness against the Lightning, who have enjoyed a rich vein of form in the past two months and look once more to have all the tools to make it deep into the play-offs.

The Rangers got an important 71-63 win over Townsville Fire in Townsville on Friday night.

Rangers point guard Kath Macleod (21 points) led the way for her side while Monica Wright made another important contribution with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Despite being without import centre Krista Phillips the Rangers still won the rebound count 42-38 while the Fire’s star imports Jessica Adair (10 points, eight rebounds) and Kayla Standish (eight points, seven rebounds) were kept closely in check.

The Rangers completed their road trip with a visit to Logan Thunder yesterday afternoon with the game finishing after The Journal went to print.

The Rangers host Adelaide Lightning at Dandenong Stadium this Saturday night at 7pm.
