THE MEMORY of one of Greater Dandenong’s most respected medical practitioners will live on in a facility where new life enters the world each day.
From February the maternity ward at South Eastern Private Hospital will be known as the Jeffares Maternity Unit, in memory of the hospital’s wellknown and respected obstetrician Dr John Jeffares, who passed away in 2004.
South Eastern Private Health CEO Ian Maytom said ward refurbishments hoped to create a more familyfocused atmosphere, with new carpet, bedding and furnishing for all rooms, and a makeover to its services department.
Dr Jeffares’ wife, Marjorie, said the family was delighted with the honour.
“We are proud to have John’s name representing the peaceful, lovely surroundings and friendly staff at South Eastern Maternity.
“John would have been very proud to be a part of so many more new beginnings.”
Mr Maytom said the ward was the most complete maternity service in the south east of Melbourne.
“We invite people to come and see for themselves at our monthly open days.”
