AFTER 10 years performing outside its home turf, the Dandenong Theatre Company will return to Dandenong with a performance of popular stage act, Les Miserables.
The theatre company’s history stretches back to 1973 when members of the Springvale South Light Orchestra Company disbanded to create the Dandenong-centric group.
With the absence of a proper performing arts centre in Dandenong, the group has been performing keynote plays and musicals at the Monash Secondary College Theatrette.
But the arrival in February of the new Drum Theatre and Town Hall complex has heralded an exciting new era for the Dandenong Theatre Company, which will now perform the Victor Hugo novel-inspired Les Miserables between 21 April and 6 May.
Long time committee member and production coordinator Stephen Oakes said he was thrilled with the new complex.
“Working in The Drum gives us the opportunity to work with equipment and infrastructure that we and many other companies our size have never had access to before.”
Rehearsals are now underway for the production. To book tickets, phone The Drum on 9771 6666.
