GRADE five and six students at Noble Park’s Wallarano Primary School can now be found driving around Australia.
That is, as part of the school’s well-planned Wallarano Bash, where students have constructed their own cars in small groups before taking part in an opening ceremony last week that has launched them on a seven-week journey across every state in Australia.
While students won’t physically travel to each state, Wallarano’s grade five manager Snezana Jovanovic said they would investigate the geographical features of tourism in Australia by studying each state.
“They travel to different states and have a set budget,” she said.
“They need to answer certain questions about the state, and a diary entry is carried through each week as they go through their journey.”
Ms Jovanovic said the kids were ‘having a blast’ in the activity which combines mathematics, literary and thinking skills into an exciting activity.
At the conclusion of the seven-week course, students will then engage in debate over why the state they finish on is better than the rest.
Ms Jovanovic thanked fellow grade five and six teachers, and also teacher aides for helping to organise the bash.
