School gets hi-tech hub

By Shaun Inguanzo
A TECHNOLOGICAL revolution awaits students at Noble Park’s Carwatha College P-12.
Work has begun on the school’s $1.2 million redevelopment to transform old classrooms into a hub of electronic whiteboards, computers and digital cameras.
The school is contributing $150,000 to the project and the State Government provided the balance.
Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews said $570,000 was given for works and $500,000 for extra staffing under the State Government’s Leading Schools Fund.
Carwatha College P-12 principal Bronwyn Hamilton said the new works were good news for the school community, particularly the year seven and eight students.
“It will be a flexible learning space, and will fit about four or five classes of students at the same time,” she said.
“It will be rich in information and communication technologies, including electronic whiteboards and readily available cameras. Students will use all these tools to support their learning.”
Mr Andrews said it was the second major development at the school funded by the State Government.
“I am proud of our local schools and would like to thank the principal of Carwatha College, Bronwyn Hamilton, and the school council for the hard work they have contributed to get this project off the ground,” he said.
Works are expected to be finished by late July.
In 2003, the school received funding for a new $2.5 million primary school in its 13th year as a prep to year 12 college.
More than 1000 students attend the school, which opened 28 years ago.
