THE Dandenong Country Women’s Association (CWA) celebrated its 73rd birthday this week in the hall it fought hard earlier this year to retain.
Celebrating at the Palm Plaza Meeting Room, the group indulged in line dancing, a light afternoon tea and discussions about its recent fight against Greater Dandenong Council to keep meeting at the hall.
Dandenong CWA craft leader Val Preston said there was “no hard liquor” but plenty of fun had by the 50 celebrants, who also included visitors from neighbouring CWA groups such as Noble Park, Cranbourne and Berwick.
“We had a cake to celebrate and we had line dancing, which was quite good fun,” she said. “We didn’t get Cr Memeti up line dancing but we think he enjoyed the celebrations.”
The CWA branch was told by the council last month it could stay at the Palm Plaza Meeting Room, but has been encouraged to inspect other options.
