PEOPLE young and old learnt more about Aboriginal clap sticks last week as the musical instruments were presented to the Greater Dandenong Council.
Members of the Aboriginal education group The Flame Unity Crew presented the council’s nature reserve staff with the Indigenous clap sticks before an audience of senior citizens and students from Springvale South Primary School last week.
The crew is active in the local area, promoting cultural harmony to school children and the wider community.
The Flame Unity Crew has been working with the City of Greater Dandenong’s reserve staff and has hosted a number of performances at the Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve in Springvale South.
Clap sticks are a cultural musical instrument often used in conjunction with didgeridoo performances and accompanying dances.
The purpose of clap sticks is to provide rhythm for the dancers.
