AN INDIAN performer who recovered from a stroke will spend three uninterrupted hours on stage performing a cultural play in Springvale next month.
Writer and dramatist Ashvin Desai, 58, suffered a serious stroke in 1994 that sent him into a coma.
He praised the Victorian medical system for his rapid progress since the stroke that has allowed him to continue his passion for writing.
Mr Desai this week gave further praise to the City of Greater Dandenong which has allowed him to perform Sapnaa To Pankhinu Naam, a musical-suspense-comedy, at the Springvale Town Hall on 21 October.
“They are the first council to support the project and we appreciate them supporting us,” Mr Desai said.
The dramatist will work with his troupe of 11 performers as the main character.
The play will be spoken in the Indian language Gujarati, the mother-tongue of former Indian leader Mahatma Ghandi.
Mr Desai is the publicity officer for the Gujarati Association of Victoria.
He said despite having limited movement in his left arm and minor speech impediments, he was able to contribute back to the community by helping fellow Gujarati people settle in Victoria.
Ms Desai said premier Steve Bracks and Greater Dandenong mayor Peter Brown had both flagged their support for the project and would attend the premiere.
