WHEN the Noble Park Vision Impaired Group met for the 250th time recently members decided it was a milestone worth celebrating.
The selfhelp group meets fortnightly at the Noble Park RSL, with excursions and regular guest speakers invited to discuss a range of issues, extending beyond matters relating to vision impairment.
Group coordinator Graham Thomas said the meetings now attract up to 50 people after beginning with 15 in 1994.
“The meetings are very social events,” Mr Thomas said.
“There’s no set format. It’s always relaxed. We don’t sit there and talk about our problems. Although it’s a chance to share experiences with other people, it’s more about getting together and having fun.
“That’s what has made it such a successful group,” he said.
Greater Dandenong mayor Maria Sampey was the special guest speaker at the 250th meeting.
Other guests included Carol Arnett and Jane Brownfield from Vision Australia.
