THE City of Greater Dandenong hosted a Christmas luncheon this week to thank its volunteers for their tireless efforts.
The luncheon was held at the Dandenong Workers’ Club on Tuesday with new mayor Youhorn Chea in attendance.
More than 300 volunteers attended the luncheon, and were presented with diaries for their efforts.
This week is International Volunteers Week as declared by the United Nations, with Tuesday, 5 December the official day of celebration.
The first International Volunteer Day was celebrated in 1986. Volunteering Australia, a peak body for the nation’s volunteers, says volunteering contributes an estimated $42 billion a year to the Australian economy.
