Funds to cut emissions

TWO Greater Dandenong businesses will share more than $600,000 to invest in clean energy, reduce carbon pollution and reduce costs.
Nissan Casting Pty Ltd will use its Clean Technology Investment Program grant and about $1.25 million of its own cash to replace four aluminium reverb melt furnaces at its Dandenong automotive component manufacturing plant with one high-efficiency tower melt furnace.
It expects to reduce its carbon emissions by 41 per cent and save $252,000 in energy costs each year.
Lock Focus Pty Ltd will install a power efficiency module to better regulate power throughout the facility, covers on die cast machines to prevent heat loss, and controls to regulate heating elements in seven furnaces.
Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus said the project was expected to save $7600 in energy costs each year and reduce carbon emissions by 10 per cent.
“It’s a win for business, the economy and the environment, and I encourage more local manufacturers to apply for support,” he said.
