THE Dandenong Rangers team for the 2005-06 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season will be announced at the team launch today (Thursday) at the Heritage Hill Museum in Dandenong.
The theme of the WNBL this season is ‘Feel the Attitude’ and the Rangers have plenty of it when it comes to success and the team’s desire to win three consecutive WNBL championships.
The season tips off on 1 October for the Rangers, when the proud team will unfurl its championship banner prior to playing the Sydney Uni Flames in the much-anticipated grand final replay of last season.
The Rangers beat the Flames 52-47 in the grand final last season and will be expecting them to be burning for revenge.
Gary Fox returns to the top coaching job at the Rangers for his fourth consecutive season and sports an impressive 76 per cent win rate.
The coming WNBL season is promising to be one of the best ever with many international players returning from overseas to add strength to the already quality league.
Michele Timms, former captain of the Australian Opals and Sydney 2000 silver medallist will be master of ceremonies at the season launch.
Special guests will include the City of Greater Dandenong mayor Maria Sampey, chief executive Carl Wulff, competition manager of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Tony Goodwin and executive officer of Womensport and Recreation Victoria Fiona Justin.
Business leaders such as managing director of Jayco Australia Gerry Ryan and chief executive of Ray White Real Estate John Shore will also be in attendance.
The purpose of the launch is to raise the profile of the Rangers in the community, unveil a new look fitted team singlet and shorts, the Rangers new WNBL uniform and launch the Dandenong Rangers new website www.dandenongrangers.com
