YEAR 11 business studies students at the Dandenong High School are helping younger schoolmates establish a juice bar to promote healthy eating at the school.
The students are overseeing a group of year sevens who plan to run a juice bar for the rest of the year where other students can buy cheap and healthy fruit smoothies.
To help with the set up costs, the City of Greater Dandenong has contributed $4800 as part of a program to increase awareness of nutrition and healthy food practices in schools.
Mayor Maria Sampey said the council hopes the project will inspire other schools to adopt similar programs.
“Not only is it helping the students learn what it takes to run their own small business, but it is also raising nutritional awareness and encouraging the students to be healthier,” Cr Sampey said.
The project was launched on Friday after a successful trial run last week.
