POLICE have charged six people with unlawful imprisonment, aggravated burglary and robbery after an Internet dating rendezvous went horribly wrong.
Police said a man and woman who met through an Internet dating site had arranged to meet at a Dandenong motel on Easter Monday night.
Police said the rendezvous had followed several previous meetings between the two.
Upon arriving at the motel, the woman was accompanied by a group of six other people, who forced the man against his will to the nearest ATM for the purpose of withdrawing cash.
Police said onlookers spotted the incident as the group made its way to the ATM and noticed the group had stolen the man’s mobile phone and wallet.
The onlookers phoned police, who arrived promptly and apprehended two people.
Detectives from Greater Dandenong CIU and the police Dog Squad were called in to search for the other five people.
Police later that night located the missing five.
Police have charged six of the seven people with robbery, aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.
One other is expected to be charged on summons.
Police said some of the people charged were minors and would appear before the Children’s Court in June, while those who were adults were scheduled to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this month.
