Pumped up by minister’s visit

By Shaun Inguanzo
HALLAM-BASED manufacturer Champion Compressors had 10,000 reasons to smile last week.
The company has reached a milestone production figure of 10,000 locally designed Marathon model industrial air compressors.
The compressors, which help other manufacturers to run air-fuelled machinery, are able to be fully customised by Champion’s engineers, giving the company a competitive advantage.
To help celebrate the occasion, Industry and State Development Minister Theo Theophanous presented Champion Compressors with a commemorative plaque, recognising this milestone and the company’s ongoing commitment to local industry.
“This 10,000th compressor milestone is a significant achievement that represents approximately $250 million in import replacement value,” Mr Theophanous said.
“Champion Compressors is setting a great example for other Victorian manufacturers and continues to demonstrate how Australian companies can leverage their unique experience of local conditions to build domestic market-share and win export sales.”
The tribute from Minister Theophanous was delivered following an extensive factory tour of Champion’s facilities.
Champion Compressors’ managing director, Wayne St Baker, was delighted with the State Government’s recognition.
“This level of recognition from the State Government is truly a great honour.”
“Champion Compressors boasts over 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing tailored compressed air solutions for Australian and international industry,” he said.

Champion Compressors is a major employer in the Hallam and Dandenong region.
The company says its Hallam-based team of design engineers and manufacturing personnel are some of the most skilful in the country at providing compressed air equipment for a range of industrial applications.
