OUTSTANDING artwork took pride of place at Noble Park Community Centre over the weekend.
The centre’s eighth annual art show welcomed contributions from aged care facilities and all-abilities artists in the area for the first time this year, in addition to its usual submissions from students and the wider community.
A voluntary committee of local artists runs the show, which is a platform for new and emerging artists to showcase their efforts in a professional setting and encourages social inclusion.
Noble Park artist Fred Woodman has regularly participated in the show and this year submitted an acrylic rendition of the amorphophallus titanum flower, commonly known as the corpse flower.
It created great interest in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens when it flowered for the first time on Christmas Day last year.
The spathe’s attractive colour inspired the painting.
Mr Woodman has a particular interest and appreciation in plants’ natural beauty.
He volunteers his time to organise the show each year and is an integral committee member.
Artist Sue Jarvis judged the works this year and was extremely impressed with the standard.
